Aside from the southern hospitality and live music drafting through the streets, there is something else Nashville does a great job of providing, and that's delicious food of all kinds. It would take entirely too long to try to narrow down a list of good places to eat in the city, but there is a smaller list I could put together.
The following restaurants are my top picks for the most nostalgic eateries in the city. This means that from the moment you step inside and take that first bite, these places will leave you with a sense that the "good ole days" may not be gone.
Puckett's Grocery & Restaurant
Located in the heart of the city is Puckett's, a place for live music, amazing food, and the ultimate southern experience. The roots of this place began in the 1950s as a little grocery store in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, and it has only grown to flourish since. Whether you come to sit for a bite or just stop by for a few groceries, you'll be treated like family. Heard enough and ready to chow down? Check out their menu here.
The Loveless Cafe
It doesn't get more southern than Loveless Cafe, folks! If you get a chance to get inside the door of this nearly always packed restaurant, you'll understand what it means to make food with love in it. The history of Loveless began in 1951 when Lon and Annie Loveless began serving the now famous biscuits right out the front door of their home to travelers who passed by on US Highway 100 in Nashville, and when I say the biscuits are famous, I do mean famous. Look through the reviews and you won't find one person who doesn't mention them. According to the Loveless website, they makes between 4,000 to 7,000 biscuits per day. Wow! Now, if biscuits aren't your thing, there are plenty of other delicious options on the menu, viewable here.
The Pancake Pantry
Although there's an international house of pancakes (IHOP), they have nothing on Nashville's famous Pancake Pantry. This "mom and pop" store's history goes back to 1961, when one man decided to build a menu based around unbelievably good pancakes. The restaurant has been passed through his family ever since, keeping the same tradition of good food and good people. If you need any indication of just how delicious the food is, all you have to do is drive by and see the line out the door, curving around the corner. Didn't read this post until after breakfast? Don't worry, they have great lunch options too; check them out here.
