Halloween, one of my favorite I guess, ‘holidays’, is because it means that all the winter festivities is coming close. Also, because it's fall and it starts to get a little cooler and for a girl mostly, it’s the best time of the year to start wearing your new cute clothes. My friends and I love having bonfires and visiting the best haunted houses because they only come once a month and what’s not fun about getting your adrenaline pumping! The following are some of the best haunted houses I’ve been too near Chicago, or around the Illinois area.
- Dungeon of Doom (Zion, IL)
This one is a little bit further for my Chicago folks but its approx. an hour and 15 minutes away from the area and its one of the best I’ve been too. It takes about a whole hour to get through the whole haunted house and my group even got separated a few times which made it even scarier because who wants their friends to leave their side during a haunted house?! One of my favorite parts of the haunted house is how interactive it is. No, they don’t touch, you but you need to do certain things to get out of the haunted house. There is a room where you get buried alive, and well I don’t want to spoil it for you but have fun trying to escape!
2. 13th Floor Haunted House (MelrosePark, IL)
This haunted house is one of the most decorative ones I’ve been too! Props to the actors that put all the settings together because they look amazing and it's definitely one of the cleanest haunted houses I’ve been too. As soon as you leave your car your experience starts with some of the actors scaring you at the line, even while buying your ticket. This haunted house has a whole storyline that will become very easy to follow once you get to the second part of the ‘tour’ which makes it very exciting because it shows how much hard work is put into the production!
3. Scream Scene (Skokie, IL)
I went to this one last year with my friends and it was pretty good! One fog my favorite rooms was a Dia de los Muertos themed room, which is a Mexican inspired Halloween theme! It was so colorful and it made me happy seeing different cultures represented in a haunted house. The decorations were amazing and there was even a room full of mirrors that would tweak you out and make you dizzy so finding your way out was a hard task to do!
I know there are many more haunted houses and I hope to go to more but being a full-time student sometimes gets in the way of fun. I hope to visit more haunted houses before Halloween ends and hopefully travel one day to other states to see what haunted houses they have !
