Whether it's binge watching Netflix or catching up on one of your favorite TV shows, chances are you are so obsessed with it that you live vicariously through the cast and sometimes believe that their fake problems are your real ones.
While you are aware that Grey Sloan Memorial doesn't actually exist and that "Gossip Girl" isn't really sending out blasts after every class period, you can never seem to shake the fact that you wish you were a part of their fictional lives. And one time or another you've had public interactions with friends or strangers asking, "Did you see last night's episode?" or, "What makes that show so special?"
The answer to the latter of the two almost always begins with a look of disgust (because who dare ask such an irrelevant question), then a sigh and finally a jumble of infinite answers. However, there seems to be one aspect that stands out over the others: the best friend relationships that you witness on your favorite show.
Rather than spending hours on my favorite TV BFFs, here's a list of the top 20 best friend relationships from all over the fictional TV world.
1. Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang
They defined not only how to be kick ass surgeons, but also how to be the definition of "BFF goals."
2. Monica and Rachel
Even though Chandler and Joey came in a close second.
3. Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen
As if being the elite in the Upper East Side wasn't #Goals enough.
4. Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer
Not only did everyone want to call their BFF by their first initial and last name, but they also wanted to high key be a part of this duo.
5. Haley James Scott and Brooke Davis
Because Brooke and Haley's relationship definitely outweighed the love we had for Nathan and Haley. *petitioning to have Brooke Davis as my godmother*
6. Chandler and Joey
If you look up the word "bromance" in the dictionary, you're sure to find a picture of these two right under it.
7. Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald
Because if you didn't have Chuck Bass as a BFF on the Upper East Side, you might as well move to Brooklyn. (Ahem, Dan Humphrey, that's your cue!)
8. Nathan and Lucas Scott
They helped create the epitome of "marrying your best friend's brother."
9. John Dorian and Christopher Turk
There was no way you could get between a friendship that showed their love for each other they way they did.
10. Lorelai and Rory Gilmore
Nobody could compare to this mother-daughter duo.
11. Taystee and Poussey
I mean, I'm not saying that I want to go to prison. But with a friendship like this, it doesn't seem that bad.
12. Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter
Even though Topanga and Cory were #RelationshipGoals, these two definitely questioned our decision.
13. "The Sex and the City" Squad
#SquadGoals, that's all I have to say.
14. The Golden Girls
As if the theme song wasn't catchy enough, these three made growing older something to look forward to.
15. Lucy and Ethel
Who else to break the stigma of a woman's role in society than this duo?
16. Ann and Leslie
Were there Pawnee Pals on the show that compared to Leslie and Ann? Knope. (See what I did there?)
17. Miley and Lilly
They defined the "best of both worlds" as bffs. (RIP to the good ol' days)
18. "That 70s Show" Crew
If you didn't compare your friend group to the Forman basement crew, then you probably didn't appreciate these BFFs the way the rest of us did.
19. The Pretty Little Liars
You know what they say about friends who hunt stalker-murderer-kidnappers together.
20. Grace and Frankie
Without each other, finding out their husbands were in love with each other would have been far less bearable.
