If you've read any of my past articles (pssst! Check them out here if you haven't!), then you know I am a HUGE fan of Green Day. Around this time last year, I was squealing like a little girl because they were being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I got tickets to see them at the House of Blues in Cleveland with my boyfriend who equally loves them. Thinking back to that amazing night seeing my idols for the first time inspired me to write this article about some of my favorite songs by Green Day. I can't give a concrete reason why I am so infatuated with them. Something about them spoke to me during my middle school years and poof! Here I am a freshman in college and still fan-girling over them like there's no tomorrow. After all these years and I still can't put my finger on it. Maybe it’s because the lyrics are so raw and powerful. Maybe it’s because Tre makes funny faces when he plays the drums or how Mike is a badass. Maybe it's because they aren't afraid to be individuals and be themselves while working in an industry that's focused on pumping out pop stars by the dozen. Maybe it’s their presence on stage and how Billie Joe commands the audience to repeat after him with his signature "ayyyyye ohhhhh, hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!" and so on. If you don't understand this reference, then I suggest you watch some live videos cause damn are they good in concert. I could sit for hours just listening to their live albums or watching youtube videos of them.

Maybe I love Green Day for a combination of all of these reasons. Yes, let’s go with that. That would save us a lot of time and I doubt any of you readers have that kind of patience. Let's get back on track, shall we?

Without further ado, here are 13 of my personal favourite Green Day songs. If you don’t know the significance of the “13” then give a listen to their album "21st Century Breakdown." It’s a recurring theme within it. Oh, what I would have given to be the class of ’13! Two years too late, I suppose. These songs are in no order of preference and are some you may never have heard of if you’re not an avid listener. If you want to listen to any of these songs, click on the titles to be redirected to a YouTube video! Enjoy and tell me what you think about my selection in the comments!

1. "I Was There"

2. "Minority"

Awesome live video (If you didn't get my first reference about Billie Joe commanding the audience, then watch this video!)

3. "Pop Rocks and Coke"

4. "Jesus of Suburbia"

Awesome live video

5. "Last of the American Girls"

6. "Brutal Love"

7. "Going to Pasalacqua"

Awesome live video

8. "Stuck With Me"

9. "Walking Contradiction"

10. "Hearts Collide"

11. "East Jesus Nowhere"

12. "When I Come Around"

13. "Amy"

BONUSES: "The Saints Are Coming" with U2

Hopefully, you enjoyed and appreciated these songs! If not, at least appreciate Billie Joe's hair because it's so fluffy and amazing.

Thanks for reading!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
