Top 10 Top 10s Of 2010
Thomas Arthur Short

Top 10 lists have gained massive popularity in recent years. While we read these highly informative pieces of literature we must reflect on the so called "golden ages" of the Top 10. From January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2010 authors were able to freely express their beliefs and passions without fear of being overshadowed by Buzzfeed. No one has been brave enough to rank these masterpieces in the format that made them famous, until today. Ladies and gentlemen I am pleased to present: The Top 10 Top 10s of 2010.

10. Top 10 Best Waterfalls of the World

Published: 7/2/2010

Whenever I am looking for waterfall related news I am sure to head down to www.world-of-waterfalls.com. This website is slightly smaller than others on this list yet it has managed to publish an incredible Top Ten. I love they way this site listed the waterfalls in reverse order. I was in suspense during my entire reading experience wondering which of these world wonders would take the highly sought after top spot. In the end it was the Iguazu Falls that took the gold. This Top Ten is number ten only because there is a huge controversy still surrounding this list. Critics say that the Victoria Falls (the largest singular waterfall) should have taken the top spot.

9. The Top Ten Beatles Songs of All Time

Published: 8/22/2010

The Beatles are known worldwide as one of the greatest bands of all time. No wonder there are so many Top Tens out there trying to rank their hit songs. Few websites are more deserving of posting a list of this caliber than www.rollingstone.com. From “Come Together” to “A Day in the Life” this list packs in hit after hit. Although this list should be listed much higher it loses points for only having nine songs listed.

8. Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks

Published: 7/8/2010

“Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters is a song that spoke to a generation. But what happens on top of the boardwalk? Travel.nationalgeographic.com was not only able to answer that question, but they packaged it in an easlily digestable listacle form. While this list did kill the suspense by listing their #1 first it does not diminish the influence this list had on many boardwalk enthusiasts.

7.The 10 Best Books of 2010

Published: 12/1/2010

There are some people that read books, there are some people that make lists, and there are people who do the unimaginable and put books into lists. Books are difficult to rank because reading preferences are completely subjective. What makes one book better than another? www.nytimes.com decided they had no right to rank books based on their own personal prejucdices and just put them all on the page. This allows the reader to decide for himself what book really is #1 (based on the ten that nytimes selected for you).

6. The Top 10 Everything of 2010

Published: 12/11/2010

Time.com is one of the largest websites on the internet today and yet they dropped the ball on this massive Top Ten. They listed the top ten of everything in 2010 and yet it was completely lackluster. Sure, it takes determinaton to list the Top Ten of everything but not even time.com was brave enough rank their own massive top ten. Which Top Ten was the best Top Ten of their Top Ten of everything? While this may be an experimental Top Ten Time was too afraid to go the extra mile.

5. Top 10 Toddler Fears

Published: 5/14/2010

Chickens cannot be toddlers but toddlers can be chickens. Top Ten Toddler Fears was able to withstand the test of time with it’s generic fears like “the dark” and “monsters”. Parents.com could easilly repackage this list as “Top Ten Normal Fears”. I know many adults who are afraid of the dark, the dentist, and toilets.

4. Top 10 Beaches

Published: 7/08/2010

National Geographic appears twice on this list because, quite frankly, they were on top of their Top Ten game in 2010. This list features beaches from a wide variety of areas each with their own unique sands and waters. I was surprised that Fort Myers Beach didn’t place on this list but there is always the 2011 list to strive for.

3. Top 10 Greatest Mathematicians

Published: 12/7/2010

Math is a very difficult subject for some people who are not good at math. These mathematicians were pretty good at math. Listverse ranked them in a very mathematical way by listing them in numerical order. Points were deducted because I definitely did more math in 2010 than Isaac Newton.

2. California Ten Largest Cities in California by Population

1/1/2010

Too many Top Ten lists get weighed down by the opinion of the author and how they feel about a certain topic. That’s why I appricate the work www.seecalifornia.com put into the list to make it completely objective. Los Angeles had the highest population in 2010 and San Diego can’t do anything about it.

1. Adidas Originals Top Ten Hi – Summer 2010

Published: 6/07/2010

Adidas hit it out of the park in 2010 with their Originals Top Ten Hi. Not many companies can pull off denim style canvas with hiker laces like Adidas can. These shoes are perfect for any occasion: hiking, climbing, or walking on hot concrete! These shoes will be remembered as the greatest Top Ten of 2010.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
