1. They say nothing
When people see your name on a piece of paper they just stare at it trying to pronounce it in their head, but no words ever come out instead you just expense a long award pause.
2. " Are you from here?"
It's just rude to ask someone that.
3. " Can you spell it?"
Trust me, me spelling it out for you will not make a difference you just have to try pronouncing it.
4. " What ethnicity are you?"
Personally my name does have to do with the fact I'm half Italian, but that's not the case for everyone with a unique name. Some people just wanted to be different.
5. " But you're pale, why do you have an Italian name?"
The most frustrating question. Do people honestly believe in our vast world that there are no pale Italians, and I have to be tan to have an Italian name? Let's stop stereotyping people!
6. " Well...... that's pretty."
That tends to be the default answer when no one knows what to say about it
7. " Do you have a nickname?"
No I was given this name so I couldn't have a nickname, and I prefer people to call me by my full name anyways. I don't walk up to you and ask if you have a nickname because I don't feel like learning your name.
8. " What does that mean or stand for?"
I have to have a deep meaning behind my name for it to have a purpose? Maybe my parents just thought it was pretty.
9. "Are you named after a relative."
No. My mom made up my name because she did not only want me to have an Italian name, but wanted no one else to have that name. But both my middle names are after my grandmothers. So part of my name is after someone but my first name is not.
10. " Do you like having a unique name?"
Yes. Not only do I love having a piece of my culture always with me, I also love being different. You'll never meet another Sarilya in your life and I'm very proud of that!
