10 Reasons Dachshunds Are Just The BEST Breed

Why your next dog should be a stumpy little dachshund.

Let me start out by saying I am very biased.

I have an adorable little rescue dachshund named Bella, who has been my best friend for over 10 years. She was the runt of the litter and originated from an abusive breeder, but she has such a wonderful personality that it would be a crime not to make this article about her and her breed.

Here are 10 reasons your next pup should be a dachshund:

1. Puppy Form

Try and tell me that this isn’t the cutest darn pup you’ve ever laid your eyes on.

2. Stubby Little Legs

This thing is literally just a potato with legs. Their little stumps will take them far, though. Not to mention the small little holes in the yard they’ll make with those stumps.

3. Their Ears

Their ears give them so much expression. They’re fun to curl or watch fly in the wind when they enjoy a car ride. Sometimes they get dirty (depending on if you have a long hair like I do), but that just means they get a bath and look oh so cute while getting it.

4. Unconditional Love

Yes, all dogs give unconditional love, but dachshunds are unique in it. Because they are burrowers, they LOVE hiding inside your sheets or clothes. In the winter, mine is constantly in my hoodie with me with her head popping out of the neck hole.

5. No Counter Surfing

Refer to stubby legs. There’s no way they can jump up on the counter and steal your Thanksgiving turkey with those legs. Their puppy eyes when they beg, however, is a different story.

6. Lifespan

Dachshunds actually have a pretty good estimated lifespan. They can range from 12 to 17 years, but 20 is the oldest known dachshund.

7. Different Coats and Sizes

Dachshunds can come as miniature or standard. There are also dachshunds in between these two sizes that are only in the United Kingdom. On top of this, there are 3 different coat types. There’s smooth, longhair, and wirehair.

8. Incredibly Stylish

Mine has flaky, dandruff skin from her abusive breeder so she is no stranger to fashion. Many other dachshunds are dressed up on the internet as well, with the more popular style being a hot dog costume for obvious reasons

9. Portable

These little pups can be put in a purse, backpack, boat, car, train, plane, and more! They can fit just about anywhere.

10. Weiner Puns

After getting a dachshund, you will be a pro at weiner dog puns. Let’s not mention the countless shirts, socks and accessories with said puns on them.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
