Everyone has their own opinions about girls in sororities. From the outside, it is hard to understand what Greek life is about. Even on the inside, you cannot completely understand it. Here are the top questions I hate getting when people find out I am in a sorority.
10. Isn't everyone, like, really stuck up?
Oh, the classic stereotype of sorority girls. "They think they are better than everyone else on campus. They only associate themselves with other Greeks." Yes, there are some girls like this. But those girls were like that long before Greek life. I also know a lot of girls who are miserable to be around that aren't in sororities. In today's world, you can find snobs anywhere and everywhere.
9. Are you guys top tier?
THERE ARE NO TOP HOUSES. This question drives me nuts. Every house is valuable in its own way. There is something special about every single sorority. “Top tier houses” are just arbitrary opinions used to divide the Greek community for ridiculous social alienation and childish elitism. These attitudes are a painful reality of Greek life at many schools, but hold no truth as to the quality of character among members in any one chapter.
8. Why is the dad bod a thing?
I can’t answer this question. I don’t know why it is a thing. Personally, I’m not really into the dad bod, but that is just my opinion.
7. How much do you pay for your friends?
Yes, we have to pay dues to be in a sorority, but I do not pay these girls to be my sisters. All these girls just happened to join the same organization and we just happened to become best friends.
6. Why do you guys throw up gang signs?
Because it's fun. Do you have something against fun?
5. Do you even go to class?
Yes we do, every day. We have to keep up our grades in order to be in a sorority. Yes, we go out to parties and do other things, but we do go to class. On social media, it looks like sorority girls just go out, but who Instagrams a picture of themselves in class?
4. How bad was your hazing?
No. Stop right there. We do not haze, nor do I know of any sororities that do. It is damaging mentally and physically. We do not haze.
3. So you only date frat boys right?
Nope. It may seem like we do, but I know plenty of girls who have dated guys who are not in Greek life. Some girls may prefer frat guys, given that Greeks tend to spend a lot of time with one another, but everyone has their preferences.
2. How do you live with that many girls?
We just do. You are thrown into a house with a ton of girls from all walks of life. Yes, it can get hectic. Yes, we drive each other crazy from time to time. But, don't all families do that?
