Top 10 Lana Del Rey Songs

Lana Del Rey, one of my favorite artists, has such a unique sound and way of creating music. Each song has its own story that can be interpreted so many different ways. From heartbreak to party anthem, Lana knows how to make songs special. Here is the top 10 countdown to my favorite songs by Lana Del Rey.

10. High By The Beach - “Honeymoon”

The leading single off of Rey’s most recent album. This song was a completely different style for her as it used more technical producing at the end of the chorus and the message of the song is different from what she normally does. Saying that she can do everything on her own without a man was a different take on her music that I liked a lot.

9. Young and Beautiful

Although not officially on one of her studio albums, this is still one of the most recognizable Lana songs. This was the first song I heard from the indie singer and I immediately fell in love. The beautiful piano and orchestra throughout the song makes the theme for Great Gatsby fit in perfectly, not to mention the old Hollywood glamour to it too.

8. Freak - “Honeymoon”

One of the more under appreciated songs from Lana’s discography, “Freak” makes you want to not have a care in the world and fully realize your craziness with someone you love. Going against the norm and living life is all that this song is about. And the west coast setting doesn’t hurt either.

7. Old Money - “Ultraviolence”

Not only one of the best Lana songs but also one of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard. The calming vocals and poetic nature of this song is truly stunning. With themes like family love, betrayal, and self-realization, this song has a million different messages and meanings. The chorus about being there for that person at any given moment can move you straight into a nostalgic state. Lana talks about loving someone who doesn’t love you back, something everyone has felt at some point.

6. Born To Die - “Born To Die”

Another well-known Lana song, this song fits with Lana’s major themes and aesthetics throughout her whole music career. Lana’s music seems so specific but so relatable at the same time, making her so lovable. And this song does just that.

5. Brooklyn Baby - “Ultraviolence”

An anthem off of Lana’s third studio album mixing with sounds that she hasn’t before. This song is amazing from the very start with the opening guitar chords which then goes into a very catchy and sultry chorus. Being judged for love and loving someone's opposites from you seem to be the theme of this song. Among my friends who also enjoy Lana as much as me, they all know that this is a top pick. The Lou Reed reference is also very iconic.

4. West Coast - “Ultraviolence”

Ultraviolence was a very pivotal album for Lana as it used a lot of different sounds and rhythms that old school Lana fans weren’t used too, and it paid off. “West Coast” is one of those songs that you’ll know immediately after only hearing the first few measures, making it instantly iconic. This is another catchy and sultry tune, making you want to sway your hips on your hotel balcony. Any Lana fan would love to see this one live in concert.

3. Dark Paradise - “Born To Die”

One of my absolute favorite Lana songs. The message to this song is one of the most heartbreaking as it’s about a lover who's passed away. The rhythmic pre-chorus will be stuck in your head all day and can really tug at your heartstrings. Comparing a dead lover to a dark abyss is very poetic along with her many references to wanting to be dead but it’s so artistic and beautiful at the same time. A dark paradise.

2. Ride - “Paradise”

This song is an iconic moment in Lana’s carer. No other song can make you feel as free and calm as this one. Lana’s expression of her struggles and heartbreak and loneliness are so much to handle that she leaves everything to go ride away. This song has some of the most iconic lyrics from the past decade and is a definite must for any Lana fan. The music video as well is absolutely captivating with the monologue she says at the beginning of it.

1. Video Games - “Born To Die”

Any huge Lana Del Rey fan will tell her that her first official studio album “Born To Die” is her best. One of the most popular songs on that album titled “Video Games” is a number one favorite for a lot of fans, including myself. This is quintessential Lana with it’s orchestrated and almost presidential sounds and rhythms. Another song that has the most iconic lyrics from the past decade with lyrics like “I tell you all the time, heaven is a place on earth with you” and “They say that the world was built for two/only worth living if somebody is loving you/baby now you do.” This song will truly speak to your heart and soul in time of love. This is truly one of the best love songs I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
