Top 10 Christmas Songs For Grinches

Christmas music: people either love it or hate it. Now, I'm not one of those people who listens to Christmas music all-year-round, but I do believe it has it's place-- no earlier than Thanksgiving, no later than Christmas. For the grinches who would rather claw their ears out than listen to a Christmas carol, the holiday season just isn't quite complete without hearing a few. So here, in ascending order, are [in my opinion] the top 10 Christmas songs that might be able to get you out of your "bah humbug" attitude.

10. Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms

It's the perfect song to both sing and dance to. Bonus points if you know the entire Mean Girls dance.

9. O, Holy Night

This traditional song has numerous covers, but never loses it's chilling effects. (Maybe other than the time the girls in my class had to perform it for our 7th grade Nativity play-- sorry about that.) Carrie Underwood just happened to SLAY her cover of the classic (no surprise there).

8. Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town

The children's classic is sung both out of joy for the season, and even as a threat for misbehaving children. ("He knows if you've been bad or good...") No cover of this song could ever top the Jackson 5 version.

7. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

A little more melancholy than other seasonal tunes, this song hits home for many during the holiday season. While it was originally sung by Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra's version has become the classic.

6. White Christmas

What kid doesn't grow up dreaming of a snowy Christmas morning? Bing Crosby made sure that everyone has a song to sing to express this universal desire.

5. The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." Yeah, that one. It's real title is "The Christmas Song." Fittingly simple, since this song is the epitome of the holiday season.

4. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas - Johnny Mathis

This is the perfect song to listen to as you drive around town picking up Christmas gifts or as you start decorating your own home for the season. It even makes you forget the stress of the season... at least for a little while.

3. Mary, Did You Know?

More artists have covered this song than I can count, but in my opinion, no version is better than Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd's. Chills.

2. Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to stand still while listening to this classic. It paints the perfect picture of a big, ol' family-style Christmas.

1. All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

Most Christmas songs have deep rooted tradition, and are merely covered from year to year. But Mariah Carey's passion for Christmas music drove her to write her own song released in 1994-- one of the newest songs to be admitted into the realm of Christmas classics. Yeah, you're probably going to get sick of it by December 1st, since it is so overplayed on the radio, but face it-- listening to this song is the best way to get you into the Christmas spirit.

P.S. - None of these songs or videos are mine, I'm just sharing them with the hopes of spreading a little Christmas cheer. No matter what you do or don't celebrate-- have a happy holiday season!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
