10. X-Men: Days of Future Past
This movie is nirvana for X-Men fans. It took a deft hand to execute the complicated time travel plot, and the original's director Bryan Singer made it look easy. With a huge cast of awesome actors and epic action scenes, "Days of Future Past" is the X-Men movie we've all been waiting for.
9. Two Night Stand
This under the radar rom-com tells the story of a regrettable one-night stand that is unwittingly extended when Alec (Miles Teller) and Megan (Analeigh Tipton) get snowed in. Funny, romantic and at times heartbreaking, this is one rom-com you don't want to miss.
8 Guardians of the Galaxy
The space opera that became a worldwide phenomenon featured great characters, a rocking soundtrack and all the awesome imagery we've come to expect from Marvel movies. A great film bar none.
7. The Fault In Our Stars
Teenagers with cancer may not scream great movie, but this tearjerker featured a strong romance with great acting from Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley and legitimately broke our hearts in the best way.
6. Gone Girl
Director David Fincher once again knocks it out of the park with the chilling and thrilling adaptation of the best-selling novel with a fantastic performance by Rosamund Pike and atmosphere so thick, you'll need a chainsaw to cut it.
5. The Imitation Game
Benedict Cumberbatch gives a stellar performance in this amazing and well-executed true story about mathematicians trying to break the Nazi's secret code.
4. Big Hero 6
This super-entertaining animated superhero film features colorful characters, a strong story and a lovable robot that makes it the full-package for movie lovers. If it weren't for the next three movies, it would be the event of the year.
3. The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson's fun romp about a legendary concierge who travels through a wonderful world with equally wonderful characters is a visual masterpiece that entertains the mind and the eye. For fans of Anderson's work, it doesn't get better.
2. Whiplash
A young drummer (Miles Teller) is pushed to his limit by an abusive and sadistic instructor (JK Simmons) while trying to become the best there is. A masterclass in intensity and a dark reflection on the commitment to success, "Whiplash" is a flawless film.
1. Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Told as one continuous shot, this impeccably executed and performed film challenges our expectations, makes us laugh and cry and breathes new life back into cinema. It's the best film of the year.
