As 2015 comes to an end, more and more we come to reflect on the standout moments of the year; the movies, the music, the pop culture and the trends (usually focusing on the terrible ones, i.e. selfie sticks). While politics has been a huge theme of the year, from the jokes and roasts of Donald Trump's campaign to more serious issues like #BlackLivesMatter, one thing that has almost overshadowed these things is the music of this year.
To say this year brought out some OK music and talent is truly an understatement. This was the year of music. The industry and some artists might have gone through some humps, such as with the streaming epidemic where big name artists like Taylor Swift and Jay Z called out Spotify for not paying them or anyone enough for the right to stream their music.
This ultimately lead many artists to withdraw from streaming sites, including Jay Z, who went on to create his own disaster of a streaming service, Tidal. But, even with all of this conflict, it didn't hinder the genius of the music produced this year.
We saw a resurgence in album sales, especially with Adele's, "25," which sold over 3 million copies in just the first day. We saw vinyl and cassette sales go up to record highs, a promising light for the future of the music industry. We were introduced to new talent from all over the world, new sounds, and the reinvention of old sounds, such as the retro 70's spark heard throughout a vast array of 2015's pop hits.
The year of 2015, is the year music came back into the spotlight and gave us what we were really looking for. From the likes of Welsh singer-songwriter, Marina and the Diamonds, to oddball art-pop artist, FKA Twigs, to new classics like Drake, these are my top 10 albums of the year.
