Personally, in my life, I choose to stay busy. Always having something to do keeps me motivated to do the next thing. For example, if I know I have dinner plans at 6 p.m., I will go home and do my homework so I don't have to come back after dinner and finish it. I like to accomplish things in a timely manner, but college has taught me that sometimes things won't get done exactly how you wanted – and that it's okay.
Life to me is a constant treadmill; we are always moving on it, but we aren't actually going somewhere. We plan our weeks out and live to the next event in our lives. We schedule things, we reschedule things, we plan and we plan to organize our lives. I know I am personally guilty of doing just that; I will make plans two weeks in advance and then work, live and thrive until that event. Then, boom! I realize the event is over and it is onto the next one. Sometimes we don't even mean to do this, but we rush and push through life.
But, when can we just stop and live our lives?
Maybe we can't, or maybe we can. I believe that we are programmed to do this – to schedule our lives, because that's how we keep everything together. But, I have to believe that if we all just took a few minutes each day to just slow down and breathe and soak in what life is really about, we would all be just a little happier.
Through all of the 8 a.m. classes, the heartbreaks, the nights out with friends, the nights in with friends, the tests you thought you'd never pass, through all those things, don't let moments slip by. Moments are as precious as the people in them and we don't realize all we have until it's gone. Appreciate the people and the things you get to do on a daily basis. Don't live for tomorrow ... start living for today.
Of course, plan for things. I'm not saying to stop that. I'm just saying don't live event to event; embrace all the days in between. Enjoy your life when the days are bad and LOVE your life when the days are good. Live for your friends and remember who will always be there. College is the craziest time of your life – you can be such a busy bee, just like me, but you need to know that this is the place where you make lifelong friends, potential bridesmaids or groomsmen, and maybe even meet your potential husband or wife. Slow down, enjoy these times, and don't overbook yourself. This is what life is all about: living for today!
