We all know how it feels to be 13 or 14 and think that we have it all figured out, what we want to be when we are older and where we want to go to college, when we will be married, how many kids we will have and how old we would be when we have them. This is how I was - a 13 year old with a 20 year plan. I knew exactly what I wanted and exactly how I was going to get it. This 20 year plan followed me all the way up until I was sitting at high school graduation; that's when life hit me like a train.
Everything I once thought I was going to accomplish seemed to be stretching of reach. Now I sit here in my 20s and realize that I don't have anything put together - not even a little bit. Every time I feel as though I'm getting a plan back together, it seems to crumble faster than it assembled. Yet as I get older I realize that is totally okay.
It's okay not to know what life is going to throw at you next or how you're going to handle paying all of your bills on time, feeling like a hot mess 90% of your day. Being young is not about having it all figured out or even most of it figured out. It's about trying to do something and failing in the process. It's about finding that group of friends that you feel completely like yourself with. It's about that boy who drives you crazy but you couldn't stand a day without. It's about figuring out who you are before you decide who you need to be.
Life isn't about deadlines or structure. Life is made up of mistakes and missed opportunities, all-nighters and junk food, tears and laughter. Life is everything in your plan that is spontaneous and unscripted. So this is for all of you crying in the shower because you feel like you need to have it all figured out right now - I'm here to tell you that no matter how messy your life seems to be at the moment, you are exactly where you are meant to be.
