To those who have been left behind,
It seems crazy how fast you can forget about someone who once gave you life or something to live for. There was one person in high school or college that meant so much to you- someone you thought you could spend the rest of your life with. A few years go by and things fall apart within your relationship and you as a person begin to have the same nightly thoughts about how you wish things could change and get easier. I realized that as time went on it wouldn't freeze and life wouldn't either. So here’s a few things I learned over the endless nights of thinking and music…
The nights of endless crying in the beginning will eventually end. The smiles will begin to reappear on your face and you learn to become yourself again.
Your favorite restaurant that you used to go to together will just be a favorite place of yours again. You will have memories of times you spent there but it will just become a place to eat for no special reason.
It may seem like forever, but eventually you will learn how to live without them. The new you, or the old you will slowly but surely begin to take over your body. Don't be afraid; let it. You will begin to realize how happy you were being yourself.
Remember that life will go on. The beach, adventuring, going out and all the fun stuff you used to do will become a part of your everyday life. You'll learn how to go on without texting them- text your friends instead. Don't feel bad about what happened or blame yourself; its not worth it.
No matter how hard you try to forget about the person, you'll realize that you can't. It will physically be impossible. You'll understand that they will always have a piece of your heart. No matter where life takes you, they will always have this piece of your heart. Deep down inside you hope that they have a special place for you, and they probably do.
Time will pass and things will change. Life will move on a lot slower than expected. Don't let it. Get out of bed, find your friends and start living again. You will find yourself. I guarantee that in time someone will fall in love with you just as easily as the last. It's okay to be afraid and reject the idea at first. Someone will come and fight for you regardless of your past. They will be at your side for every up and down. These people may come and go occasionally, but one day there will be someone who never leaves your side for the rest of your life. On that day, when you say “I do," you will no longer be left behind.
