To Those Who Don’t Feel Entirely Happy With Where They Are Right Now

You are never alone.

To Those Who Don’t Feel Entirely Happy With Where They Are Right Now

The constant routine of perfecting the daily schedule and re-living it over and over gets monotonous. One wakes up; one goes to class or work, and then heads home at the end of the night. Or something along those lines. Once the head hits the pillow, the thought of having to do it all over again is just tiresome.

Especially when it seems never ending. No matter how happy you are with who you’re surrounded by, there comes those times when you’re just not truly happy.

I’m writing about that time.

It’s an on and off feeling. You know you’re where you need to be, but you just don’t feel as good as you’d thought you’d be when you got here. Or you know where you need to be and you just can’t get there.

Either way, you don’t feel overall a sense of relief and happiness with your current destination.

The saying is said too many times but I’m going to repeat it in this case for you.

It is okay not to be okay. Just don’t beat yourself up because you’re not feeling okay. The constant state of happiness doesn’t happen. Yes, some fake it and ignore it all, pretending that their lives are picture perfect.

You are not one of those people and that is okay.

The feeling you’re unsure of while you sit there restless about the present is because you’re unsatisfied. You know what you’re capable of and despite how much you put into your work, your classes, or your job, you just don’t feel like it has paid off yet.

It will. Trust me. For right now, keep feeling that way. Again, don’t let it eat you alive all the time but it is okay to feel like you need to do more or be more.

Don’t be satisfied. Don’t ever stop and feel content with where you are at for the rest of your life. There’s a time where you will stop and retire and maybe just relax and feel fulfilled.

Until then, you can feel at ease but don’t ever stop reaching to do better, to be better, to feel better.

You’re hungry and no matter how many losses you’ll have from here on out, you’re going to keep winning if you keep it up with that attitude.

You’re not happy with where you are right now because you deserve better; you deserve more. Go do more.

Don’t give up striving to give it all you got. You are good enough. That moment when you can sit down and say “I made it,” is coming. Just don’t make it soon.

Making it soon means you’re not following your entire dream; you’re not living up to your full potential.

This is a normal feeling. Don’t let it scare you. Be fearless but be smart. And go give it a run for your money.

You’re priceless and powerful with so much ahead of you. Keep swinging.

Keep reaching. Don’t ever be satisfied.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
