Its now that awkward point in the semester where you may be feeling a little lost. Especially if you're a first year student. As a Sophomore in college I GET IT! I still have those little doubts where I feel as if my work isn't good enough but as much as I want to put the blame on external forces, I can't. One thing to keep in mind is the easiest way to fail is to have the mindset of a "victim". I'm not discounting the fact that there aren't things that won't affect you because life happens but ultimately, you have to pick yourself up and get back on track. Remember the first day of the semester when you told yourself "I got this!" Well I'm pretty sure you didn't tell yourself that for no reason. We all have our moments where we feel like just dropping out. Trust me its a never ending cycle but the last thing you want to be, especially being a minority, is a statistic.
If you are not satisfied with your grades, instead of putting yourself down, think about what can you do differently. In college, time management is probably one's biggest enemy because that leads to procrastination! Which eventually leads to shitty grades and that's just the honest truth. Get a planner that you can hang up in your room and write out your schedule. From there you can determine what to study on a specific day and when you can take a break to actually have fun. After all, nobody said college would be easy and your professors won't run after you either. It is YOUR job to do what you have to do as a young adult. College is basically the bridge into the real world.
One last thing. . When you're feeling overwhelmed. Don't stress yourself. Take a step back and reevaluate what's going on. If you have to spend time alone just listening to music, DO THAT. If you have friends or professors you can confide in, SPEAK TO THEM. In college your voice matters and the last thing you want to feel is alone in a place away from what you consider home. It may not make sense now but once you take initiation and push yourself to be great, your confidence level will go up. Besides, finals aren't until another month in a half or so. You have more than enough time to get things right. As humans we are our biggest critics, so use the little motivation you have now and run with it. Another important thing to keep in mind is to surround yourself around people who want to see you do good. Positivity is contagious. You become like those you hang out with daily. If there's no great progress then reevaluate your friend group but NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!!!
