To The Person Who’s Always Had My Back

People come and go.

This statement holds both the heavy weight of knowing that almost every encounter we go through will eventually end, and the calming assurance that new people will come and fill in the gap that the old people left.

This doesn’t mean, however, that this statement is a given truth all the time because there are always those people that come and don’t go. The people that you meet, and magically end up meeting again and again and again until they end up as a constant in your life. Your paths always cross, and seeing their faces on a daily basis is just another blessing that you always remind yourself to be thankful for.

Of all the people in this world that I am really thankful for, of all the ones that supported me when I needed it the most, and when I didn’t even explicitly ask for help. Of them all, I would like to thank the person that was a shoulder to lean on from day one, the person that never doubted my potentials the smallest bit. To my little sister.

Most people look up to their older siblings for support, but I found calmness in my little sister’s words of comfort. I know that out of all the people in this world, out of all the minds and ideas, she knows me and knows how I think and what I believe in. All the conversations we shared, all the dreams and wishes we confided in each other to the point that our dreams became each other’s.

To you, I would like to say thank you. Thank you for being the person that understands my passion for living and succeeding. Thank you for being the person that knows what I’m made of, and knows that no matter what happens and what I do, I’ll always find my way to make the right decision. Thank you because even though I’m probably the person that annoys you the most, and I’m the person that never stops making fun of you, you always know that all I wish for you is good things and happiness. Thank you for being there for me because no matter what decision or choice I am about to make, you keep on being by my side, and you keep on supporting me to go ahead and follow my heart.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
