To The People Who Don't Believe Skinny Shaming Exists

To the people who believe skinny shaming doesn't exist,

I'm so sorry you are too ignorant to realize our society idolizes "real women" by degrading those who are naturally thin. I'm not referring to the unhealthy, Photoshopped model skinny; I'm talking about the girls who have a fast metabolism and have always been on the smaller side. If skinny shaming doesn't exist, then please explain to me why thousands of people have called me too thin, anorexic and disgusting and have said things to me like, "I'm worried about your eating," "are you ill" or the typical, "go eat a cheeseburger." What is wrong with being thin?

Why are you allowed to love your curves, but it's wrong for me to love my bones?

Why is it OK for you to call me anorexic, but wrong for me to call you fat?

Why can you tell me to gain weight, if can't I tell you to lose weight?

"But you're skinny! How could you possibly be self-conscious? Most girls wish they looked like you. You have it easy." Simply because a person is naturally small doesn't mean they are happy with their bodies. Every person faces their own personal struggles, which has nothing to do with the size they wear. Many of these insecurities could be from the society we live in, and even those who we look up to, specifically in the media. Take Meghan Trainor, for example. She is a confident, curvy, successful women, and she likes to make that known... by shaming people who are smaller than her. Now, what does that teach the younger generations? It's OK to be "easy" on those who may be a bit curvier or even obese because fat shaming is completely unacceptable, but god forbid if a person is thin, they deserve to be criticized because they display a "false reality" of what a woman should look like?

Why is "natural beauty" defined by what men can grab and squeeze? Because men "don't want a bag of bones." Society refers to curvy girls as the "real girls." So, if you're skinny, you're suddenly imaginary? All women are real women.

We need to stop this trend by degrading one size to make another size feel better about themselves. The size of a person doesn't change who that person is on the inside and should not force that person to dislike themselves.

If you can feel beautiful for being big, then I can feel beautiful for being small. Stop the body shaming.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
