It has recently come to my attention that many people around me are struggling with mental illness, but are in denial. I used to be in the same position and I can empathize with how hard of a time it is to come to the realization that you need help.
I cannot express enough to anyone through this message just how important it is to take care of your mental health and to be aware of how you are feeling. It has been one of the most valuable lessons I have learned throughout my entire life, after struggling with mental illness as long as I can remember. I have also learned how important it is to speak up about struggles, in order to remove the stigma that keeps so many people hidden in fear that they will be judged for a certain chemical imbalance, that is part of their makeup.
DO NOT be ashamed of the way that you feel. It is valid, it is important, and there are so so many people out there who want to listen and to help you through your journey. I am tired of the stigma that mental illness gets and feeling a need to whisper to declare that I am not feeling my best at all times. So, if you're struggling with any type of mental illness (all variations and degrees are important, do not compare your struggles to someone else) please don't be afraid to reach out for the help you need. It could save your life or help you live the life you were meant to live. It took me so long to do this because I was scared of what my friends and family would think, but I later learned that it is more prevalent than most of us think. You are not alone. Please reach out to me if you need any help finding local resources or to just talk in general.
Love,
Annika
