To The One Who "Cares Too Much"

You have a big heart, that’s just who you are and that's okay.

People might see caring too much as a weakness, but it’s actually one of the greatest strengths. It can be a rare, courageous thing in this world that can seem apathetic and cold. You just need to find your balance. Care about people, but don’t let yourself be taken for granted. Don’t let people take advantage of your kindness. Give of yourself but don’t give so much that you have nothing left.

Sometimes people leave, let them go. You may find yourself in a situation where you care a lot about someone and they end up not caring at all. They might even end up leaving for something they perceive as better. Let them. If they don’t appreciate you, if they don’t see your heart, they’re not worth the time and energy wasted on trying to convince them. If they ever really cared in the first place, they will come back. When this happens, know that you probably did everything you could and it's now up to them to realize that for themselves.

Even when they showed you their darkness, you didn't run away. You wanted to do so much for them but got taken for granted, maybe even thrown away. You can only do so much for someone who doesn't care. Chances are, you still care about them regardless, because that’s just who you are. You might still wish the best for them because you remember that they once made you happy; it's hard for you to see the worst in people even when they've hurt you. That's okay, just know when it's best to walk away. Maybe make sure it's the right people.

Trust the universe. Never apologize for caring and don't regret it. Honestly, it's probably their loss. They might see it one day, they never truly knew your heart.

Having a lot of feelings isn't a bad thing. You might feel things more intensely than most people. This could mean that you can be hurt strongly, but when something is important to you, it's really important to you. You're always there for your friends and family. You love to help anyone and everyone but may not know how to help yourself. There are lots of worse things to be than caring. It is better to care too much than to not care enough or at all. It might leave you vulnerable, but that’s the point at which you learn. Learn from your experiences, but don’t let them make you cold. When you can be anything, be kind. See the best in people, but don’t let toxic people break you down. Exude positive energy and good things will come back to you.

So I say to you: care 'too much.'You are hard to find; please never change. Choosing to see the beauty of the world when it chooses to show you pain is an immense strength. Keep dreaming. Don't stop believing that there is good in the world. Someday there will be someone who deserves your heart, who cares about you just as much as you care about them.

People with this level of emotional depth and introspection will help you see life in a way you never thought possible; they see things in a different way. They will go any distance for the ones they care about and are always loyal. In the long run, you want to keep them in your life. If you're ever lucky enough to find people who care 'too much'—don't let them go, they're truly one-in-a-million.

"You have to be who you are and some people are givers and some are takers. It's just life, but you always have enough love in your heart to keep on giving. "

-Debbie Rodriguez

"Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place."

-Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
