To The One Who Got Away

Everyone has that one person who will always hold a special place in their heart.

We all have that one person. At one point in time they were your world and you would have done anything for them. That person held your heart for a long time, and maybe they still have a piece of it.

Spending so much time with someone, it's easy to grow up together and live life side by side. You learn what each other likes and dislikes, you understand each other on a deep level, and you can tell what they are thinking without saying anything. Relationships grow and mature, and when a breakup comes it can be very hard to make sense of it all. How did this person go from being your one true love to the one that broke your heart? Understanding what were false promises and lies can consume your life but it's important to move on from that time and person and learn to live an independent life.

The week after the break up you are convinced you can't live without that person. You need them back, you need a hug, you need to hear their voice. Most of the time, you don't get that. The real thoughts come weeks later. Are you alright? Do you still miss them terribly? Many times in life, we break up with someone because it got hard, or "the time wasn't right." Honestly, is the time ever right?

The one who got away will not leave your mind. You think of them often, even if you have moved on to other people. They float back through your mind like smoke and you're always wondering how they are and what may have happened if it hadn't ended the way it did. They've carried on with their life and so have you, but will your paths cross again? The questions that go through your head are numerous, and you always wonder if your paths will cross again.

So you've moved on, met a great guy or girl, and everything is perfect in the world. Then one day out of the blue, you think about that one that got away from you. The memories come flooding back and you're left sitting thinking about them and wondering where they are today and what they are doing. Are they happy? No matter what level of pain they may have put you through, you forgive them, time and time again, and still hope that above all else they can find happiness. Maybe you weren't what they were looking for or needed but hopefully the new girl is.

Part of growing up is learning to accept what happens, but sometimes we still try to alter our path. Maybe one day you see the one that got away and the conversation feels as good as it ever did. The sound of their voice makes it all come rushing back and you find yourself lost in stories of how their life has changed since you last knew them. It makes you realize what you lost and causes you to question your current self. Did I make the right decision? It's those days that the worst of your memory gets the best of me.

For most people, this is a question that is left unanswered. Many times you realize the mistake after its too late. It could be years later after the both of you have had children and are happily married. Sometimes, though life pitches you the best of curveballs, and you just have to learn to roll with what feels right. Maybe it's worth a second chance, and maybe the second time will be far better than your first.

Learn from your first attempt, and try to make the second better. Even if you can't give it another try, one thing is for sure: the one that got away will always be there. At one point, they held your heart in the palm of their hand and a little piece of it will always be with them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
