As many people know, I am the oldest of three children. There’s a five year age difference between my brother and I, and a 14 year age difference between my sister and I.
Growing up, I always wanted an older sister, but instead I had a couple of older cousins who all grew to become such significant parts of my life. I’m so thankful for my cousins and the relationships I’ve developed with them, even though some of them live as far as Georgia and Texas, it has never stopped us from having good relationships.
I have one cousin specifically who I got to see the most, her name is Michelle. She was the older sister I always wanted. But at first, I was mostly the annoying little cousin that wouldn’t ever leave her alone, only for a little while (I was six years younger).
As we grew, so did our relationship; she really is like a sister to me. So thank you, Chellie, for putting up with me in our younger years to being my best friend now. You are my personal consultant in everything I do, from what I should eat to what I should buy. You are a good role model. You’re honest with me at all times and you’re there whenever I need you. Our constant phone calls, lunch dates, shopping trips, baking disasters and inside jokes mean way more to me than what you may think. I’m thankful to have you as my cousin and I’m thankful for our relationship.
You helped me make it through my high school years and you’re already helping me through my college ones. Just don’t forget I’ll be there for you just as you are there for me.
We are partners in crime. I promise to have your back 24/7, you can always count on me like I count on you.
Thank you for knowing me better than I know myself at times. Thank you for letting me talk your ear off about anything and everything. Thank you for keeping me calm at the times when I was about to lose my sanity. Thank you for letting me be myself around you and for never judging me. Thank you letting me crash in your bed and eat your food. Thank you for randomly calling me and texting me just to see what I’m doing. Thank you for making my life a lot better. In you, I have found a forever friend.
Last but not least, thank you for being the older sibling I always wanted, even when you didn’t exactly sign up for it at first. You taught me how to be a good big sister to Gabby and Angel, and you have constantly supported me as I have gotten older and started making my own decisions. You’re a great cousin and a fantastic older sister.
