You have taught me more than you could ever know.
The day you were born, I knew I had just won more than a battle of whether or not our brother and I were receiving a little brother or sister. For nine long months, I imagined a life of being your "built-in best friend," and the day had finally come.
As I ran into the hospital room with a smile painted across my face while my heart danced in excitement. The second I laid eyes on you I could envision all the adventures we were about to have for the rest of our lives.
I was being gifted with a companion like no other.
As we grew up, everyone was always telling me that you were looking up to me. While I thought I was always going to be your role model, tables soon turned. I watched you grow while realizing I have learned more from you than anyone else. All of a sudden, I started looking up to you.
With a little sister like yourself, I know you will always support my decisions whether they are good or bad. Even though I am older, you always seem to know what to say and how to make me feel confident in myself and the situations I am put in. Our calls consisting of you telling me I am being dramatic or need to move on from something silly I have been dwelling on, never fail to make me feel better. It continues to amaze me everyday that you have so much wisdom for your age.
Throughout our sisterhood, I have seen traits within you that I envy yet appreciate in every way possible.
Your strength inspires me to hold my head high when times are tough. Your determination encourages me to set goals and achieve them. Your loyalty pushes me to want to be a better friend and companion.Your love for everyone you care about makes me always want you to know what you deserve. Your ability to see the good in every situation helps me stay positive when I want to back down.
The friendship we have built for the past 15 years has done nothing but grow. While we have had our ups and downs, nothing has made us stronger.
I want you to know that as my little sister, you make me feel needed and you make me feel special. You make me believe in myself when I feel like no one else does. You're my favorite shoulder to cry on, and my favorite laugh to giggle with. You have the ability to brighten my day on the darkest of all. To me, that means the world.
No matter how old we get, or how far apart we live, it is important that you know that the bond that we have can never be weakened. I am always right there when you need me and will never hesitate to call you when I need your helpful words, your infamous hug, or a sing-a-long car ride around town until we forget all of our worries. You make me want to become a better person every time we speak.
However, as your big sister, I would not feel like I was not doing my job if I did not offer you life advice. So from here, I will tell you to always know your worth. Never let anyone tell you that you are not good enough. You deserve the world and nothing less and you have to promise me that you will never forget that. You are the most amazing person I have ever met and I aspire to be even half the human you have become. Your smile is infectious and radiates any room you walk into. People appreciate you for who you are as an individual, and that is something you must cherish and take with you forever.
You may be taller than me, but that is not the only reason I look up to you.
