College years can be some of the hardest years of a girl's life, next to high school. It's not so much the catty, girly drama that goes on in college, it's more of the, "Oh my gosh, I'm going to graduate and be an adult" and frankly, I'm just not ready for that feeling.
Obviously, not all girls go through this stage, but I'm willing to bet that more girls than not, do. And I'm here to say, keep going. You're doing great, and you've come way too far to throw in the towel now.
These feelings of pressure can be so overwhelming at times. You know you're trying but regardless of how hard you try it doesn't seem to be getting you anywhere, but I promise you it is. Without you putting effort into your life, you wouldn't be standing where you are today.
Without you rooting for yourself, where would you be?
The thing is, if you're this girl, start taking credit for the things you're doing. Stand up for yourself. Make the changes happen that you want. Hate your job and want a new one? Cool. CHANGE IT. You and only you are going to be able to do what it takes in order to live the life the way you want to live it.
Feel like giving up and dropping out of college? Yeah, that thought runs through my head, as well as about a million other peoples' heads on a daily basis, maybe even 40 times a day. But you've come so far, and you've invested so much time and money into your education to just give up because you're having a bad day.
Oh, you have a job and go to school full time? Yeah, you, me, and about a million other college kids too. But guess what? When that job sucks, it just makes life a lot worse. So please, please, please just find a new one. If your job is making you so unhappy that you physically have to force yourself to go there every morning, then change it. Immediately. There are tons of jobs that are looking to hire college kids. Sure, they're probably not the highest paying ones, and they probably are not glorious jobs to have, but a job is a job and you should be thankful to have one. However, do not continue drilling yourself into the ground over some temporary job to get you through college, because I promise you it's not worth it.
And let's just not even talk about the exercise and eating healthy part that we know rarely happens. Unless it totally does, then more power to you!
Feel like college, social life, family life, and a relationship is too hard? Yeah, it is hard. But someone and something that you love will never be easy to fight for. I mean, we all know the iconic scene fromThe Notebook, where Allie and Noah are fighting, but he proclaims his love for her. Life is actually like that believe it or not. Balancing all of these relationships and school is hard, really hard. But if it is something that you want, then it's worth fighting for.
However, do not fight for those people who do not want you in their lives. Walk away, it is easily one of the best things you'll ever do for yourself. Do not fight for people who will give up on you so easily, because these people obviously do not care whether or not you are present in their life, and honestly, it's one less person you're going to have to be concerned with. It's a weight off your back and one less stressful thing you need to cope with.
And sometimes, you seriously just need a break. Or as one of my professors likes to call it: "a mental health day." Nothing is more important than your own sanity and well-being. If you're feeling overwhelmed with all life has thrown at you, nobody said you cannot just take a day and check out, as long as you come back. So sit on your couch all day long and watch Lifetime movies. Do it naked if that's what you really enjoy. But just take a day and really focus on yourself and your needs. Go to the nail salon, get your hair done, go for a walk, do some volunteering, anything that simply makes you feel good about yourself. If you don't feel good about yourself, you're not going to be performing up to your abilities in life, and that is, after all, what we want to be accomplishing.
So over Thanksgiving break, take a day to yourself. Spend time with your family, friends and loved ones before we have to suddenly be thrown into the world of finals week.
