"We get it, you work out."
DO YOU REALLY.
Thank god because originally I was so worried that my posting pictures everyday at the gym wasn't getting through to you..Honestly, that's why I post the pictures, so you, specifically will see them and know that I go to the gym!
Let's take a few steps backwards.
Yes, I post selfies at the gym.
Half the time I truly believe it bothers people so much because they're too lazy to go to the gym themselves. When they see that other people are motivated enough to go to the gym, they secretly feel guilty for not being as motivated too.
I think something that bothers me the most is the fact that I would never get on people for posting selfies at home, on the couch, in their PJ's, eating taco's and watching Netflix.
That's something you like to do, and you're happy you get to do it! GOOD FOR YOU! I think that's awesome, and if you're happy, go for it.
However, I'm happy at the gym. Some won't understand this, but the gym actually calms me down. I feel so much better being there, that taking a picture just confirms that and oddly enough, it's something I reflect back on. Looking back at my pictures from the day before helps me when it comes to being motivated to drive all the way there the next day.
That way I can say to myself:
"Wow look at this picture, look how happy you look, and think about how happy you felt when your workout was done. You got this."
I shouldn't have to hesitant posting a picture of myself bettering my body because I'm afraid of how it looks to the people on social media.
You don't like, then don't be friends with me.
If you can't accept that something I'm doing is making me really happy, it's probably best we weren't friends anyway.
I read an article one time saying people that post selfies at the gym are narcissists. They're so obsessed with the way they look that they want everyone else to be obsessed too.
From everyone at the gym, no that's actually not what we are going for. You see, we're proud of the hard work we put in at the gym. When we go up in weights, run a faster mile, sweat so much from leg day that we can barely stand: WE ARE PROUD.
I guess if it makes you feel better to assume I'm obsessed with myself, and not just obsessed with bettering myself, than that's okay.
If I could give any advice, it would be to stop before you judge. Ask yourself a few questions before continuing :
1.) Is it really worth me bitching over?
-There is so much shit going on in the world today, I'm pretty sure a group of people expressing their love and dedication to the gym by posting a selfie should be the least of your troubles.
2.) Hey, why don't I try going to the gym?
-Don't knock it before ya try it? Yah know what I'm saying?
3.) -Does it really matter?
Maybe I should feel happy for this person that has never once in her life been able to do a pull up but now is able to lift herself up from a cliff if ever put in that situation.
Guess what's even better than the random selfie I post at the gym?
If you were to open my phone, I have a whole album full of gym selfies!
That's right. Disgusting I know.
They're mainly progress pictures. Some started out of before I ever started going to the gym when I'd starve myself. I was very thin and bony. As weeks went by, my selfies were able to show me how great my health was improving.
Crazy right? I actually don't just do it because I'm narcissistic!
So to the girls who post selfies at the gym (and guys as well)
keep doing you.
I know there will always be people who like to comment, and most of the time those are also the ones who bully via social media while trolling successful people day to day.
Just know you've got one supporter out there, and I look forward to seeing any selfie you post.
Gym,
Netflix,
Dog,
Food,
or significant other.
sincerely,
The Selfie Queen
