To The Girl Who Doesn't Have It All Figured Out

You are not alone.

First of all it's okay. Let me tell you, I've been there, heck I'm still there. I know it's hard when everyone around you has their whole life planned out: where they're going to grad school, what job they want to get, who they're going to marry, what kind of house they want to live in, etc. I have definitely caught myself thinking "I can't even decide what to have for dinner, how can they decide who they want to spend the rest of their life with?"

So know you are not alone. But the cool thing about all of this? You're young and that means you have plenty of time to settle down. So for now, live it up! Try new things and get out and explore the world. Spend those late nights out with friends and get outside your comfort zone. Don't be afraid to make those memories because when you're faced with those big decisions that life throws at you, you can look back on these memories and make the best decision that will make you happy. Because in the end, that's what counts right?

Life is all about being happy so get out there and do what makes you smile from ear to ear. Do what you love because life is way too short to not be doing something that makes you happy. Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone's story is different and if you spend your time reading everyone else's, you'll forget to write your own.

One of my favorite teachers from high school once told me, "Go out into the world and experience it. Make your mark on the world and be proud of who you become." If we spend all of our life trying to plan out every little detail, before we know it, life will pass us by. I have been trying to live by this mantra and, although I'm a year into college and still don't have my whole life figured out, I'm okay with it. Now is the time for self-discovery. The rest will come with time. Don’t feel like your whole life depends on having everything figured out. It doesn’t.

Some of my closest friends who had a “grand plan” as soon as they graduated from high school, have already changed majors and decided they may not actually want to follow that plan. And that’s okay too. Just be patient with yourself. Surround yourself with good family, good friends, and good food. Enjoy yourself for the time being and when the time comes to make those big decisions, you’ll be ready.

You know what’s best for you so please don’t rush into making those important decisions. Trust yourself. You got this. You know way more than you think you do. Believe in yourself and remember, it’s okay to not have everything figured out.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
