To The Girl Selling Herself Short, I've Been There

You are worth it. Stop thinking you aren’t.

To The Girl Selling Herself Short, I've Been There
Kiley Allen

To the girl selling herself short:

Know yourself. Stop telling yourself that you are not worth it. Stop telling yourself that you can’t do it. Stop telling yourself that “you’re not enough for him.” You are worth it, you can do it, and you are enough. When you get ready in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself some confidence.

Instead of looking in the mirror and pointing out everything that you can find wrong with yourself, look in the mirror and think of all the things that will go right for you. You woke up today, you get the opportunity to take on another day no matter how that day could end up that is enough to be able to say that you are worth it and you are going to make it. God woke up you today for a reason, you find the reason to push yourself through that day and you know that it’s okay to compliment yourself.

I understand what it’s like to feel like you should give up. Don’t give up, there will be a reward at the end. I know it doesn’t seem that way now, but when all is said and done you will question why you even felt the way you did and why you let it get the best of you. You will pass those classes, you will get that job, and those guys that keep talking to you, you are enough for them.

It may feel like you’ve hit a spot in your life where you are no longer thriving, that is not true. You have pushed yourself and you took the initiative to say that you would go to school for yourself, no one else, and you’re there, so keep pushing through it until you finish.

One day you will wake up and you will look back to see that all of this has been worth it because you will look at yourself in the mirror this time and call yourself whatever you pushed yourself to be. Maybe you’re a doctor. Maybe you’re a lawyer, a teacher, a coach. It doesn’t matter what you are if you love it. You’re living.

Keep pushing, keep living, stop letting the odds define you. Stop letting the negatives outweigh the positives.

Sincerely,

The girl that use to sell herself short

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
