I’m sure you’ve heard it all from “that will never last,” to “I’ve never seen a truer love”. The truth is, you shouldn’t really listen to what everyone else has to say. The most important thing to remember is that you’re happy and in love, and those are the two best things that a person can ever be.
When you opened the doors to your freshman year of college, finding love may have been the last thing on your mind, but it also could have been the first. You see, we’re all told that college is supposed to be the time that you explore and find yourself. So many people say that being in a committed relationship will just make things much more complicated. Others say you won’t get the true “college experience”, but quite frankly you shouldn’t agree with either.
I’m sure you had no intentions of falling in love, but you did and I bet you never want to take that back. Even if things don’t work out in the end, you’ve grown from this experience and you’ve learned so much about yourself. Take this experience and grow from it in every single way that you can. But if this love lasts, you are truly lucky. So many people spend their lives looking for their soul mate, but you may have found yours after only eighteen years of flings, broken hearts and what-if's.
If things don’t work out, just remember these things:
You took a chance and that’s what college is all about. Opening your heart to someone is the most terrifying thing in the entire world, but you managed to take that risk. Although that certain someone didn’t care to keep your heart safe, you should thank them for each moment that you did enjoy with them. You made memories with someone who adored you, and each of those memories should be forever cherished. Never regret falling in love because it taught you how to love, and how you want to be loved.
And if your love is everlasting, remember these things:
You’re so lucky to have found your true love, soul mate, and best friend after only eighteen years of searching. Too many people take their young love for granted. Don’t make the same mistake.Take this love and run with it because it makes you the person that you’ve always wanted to be. And most importantly, stop listening to the people that don’t believe in you.
It was easy for me, falling in love and that is the best part about my relationship. If I had to go back to freshman year and change one thing, it’s that I didn’t realize what was in front of me sooner. Every moment, memory and laugh would be even better if it started earlier. To you, freshman, the one who fell in love, be happy. No matter what your experience with love is or was, follow your heart and never stop loving. Falling in love your freshman year could be the best thing that will or could happen to you, even if you don’t know it yet.
