To The Best Friends I Have Yet To Meet

Thank you for making my life better.

I thought I had all the best friends I needed. They all have been there for me and have been pretty much perfect. They all care for me and would do anything for me. However, I didn't realize I was missing some.

Whenever I began writing for Odyssey, I really began finding myself. I was able to express myself in a way I never had before. My words would flow from my fingertips as I scrambled to try and keep up with what my brain was saying. I knew it would be tedious work having to submit an article each week, along with editing 10+ a week. However, what I didn't know is that the people I would meet through this organization would change my life.

This past year has been one of the worst of my life, and I've had them by my side the entire way. I can count on at least 3 of them being awake at 4 in the morning whenever I can't sleep, with too much on my mind. I had to deal with an idiotic boy last week, and they were the first ones I told. I've grown closer with some more than others, but I wouldn't trade any of them for the world.

One of the girls on my team, is a sorority sister of mine. However, I didn't have the chance to meet her until Odyssey started up. Now, she's one of my favorite people on the planet. (Whaddup, Alec!) These people have changed my life, and I haven't even met them yet.

All we do is talk on our GroupMe, or group text, or in our Snapchat group. And yet, they've been there more for me than some of the people I've known for years. Friendship isn't about who has been by your side the longest, it's about who came into your life and never left.

The love and admiration I have for all of these girls and boy (Yes, we have one boy on the team, and Conner rocks) is outstanding. There's not a day that goes by that I don't look forward to hearing my phone go off and see "Odyssey at Missouri State University" pop up on notifications.

In this group, I've grown to be more able and comfortable to talk about Christ. I've got a really close friend who will stay up late with me, and talk about everything, and also pray for me. That's the best kind of friendship you could possibly have. We haven't met and she's got me in her prayers and vice versa. I got you, Meg.

You can count on someone always being there. You can count on these people to cheer you up and make you laugh. You can count on these people to educate you about politics and lampshading (This one's for you, Em). You can count on them for anything. They have been some of the most amazing people I know, and we haven't even met yet.

To my Odyssey babies, I love you all so much. You've changed my life. You've brought me out of my comfort zone. You've made me happier. You've made me into a better version of myself. I thank you all for that. I love you, and I look forward to meeting you soon.

All the love in the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
