I've always heard girls talk about how much they love having guy friends. "There's no drama!' Okay... But who do you go bra shopping with? And who tells you when your makeup looks cakey? And who do you rant to for hours after you see your crush checking out another girl? Sure, maybe these aren't worries for all girls. And while there's nothing wrong with only hanging out with guys, I am an avid believer in the power of gal pals. I love every type of gal pal, and I thought it was time to let them know.
1. To The Mom Friend
Where would I be without you? From "Don't jump off that" to "Don't respond to his messages" and "Stop dying your hair it's going to fall out", I would most likely be dead if it weren't for you. You always know when I need a good long cry or a quick trip to starbucks. Thanks for keeping me alive and preventing me from dropping out of school (so many times).
2.The Party Friend
Because sometimes life is way too much and sometimes you need to forget about all your problems. Thank you for being down for anything, anytime. Without you, break-ups would've been a lot more bleak, and a tough week of classes really would feel like the end of the world.
3. The Smart Friend
I can't count how many times a teacher has "randomly" called on me while I was daydreaming in class. This would be an extremely embarrassing encounter without you. Thanks for always whispering the right answer to me, but more importantly thank you for inspiring me. Your passion and work ethic has made the long trips to the library before finals far more bearable.
4. The Complainer Friend
Sometimes you really just want to vent. You want to vent about roommates. And boys. And your family. And classes. And the good news is, the complainer friend is all ears. She'll listen to you for hours because she is annoyed about the exact same things. After hours of feeding off each other, you'll forget why you were even pissed off in the first place.
5. The Funny Friend
When things get rough, the funny friend is crucial. They remind you that life is never as serious as it seems. It becomes so easy to see every little problem as the end of the world and we often need a little comic relief. Whether it's a stupid pun or making fun of themself to take the heat off of me, I'm forever thankful for the funny friend.
No matter what kind of gal pals you have, you are truly blessed. Each one of these girls is an absolute gem, so treat them as such. No one will have your back the way that your girlfriend's will and at the end of the day building each other up is the most important part of any friendship.
