We live in one of the few apartment complexes that allow pets. Why aren’t we taking advantage of this? A dog seems almost impossible with our crazy schedules, but a cat could very well be a great buddy.
1. A cat could add some warmth.
Our space is cute, don’t get me wrong. But just imagine a cute, fuzzy cat sleeping on our couch. Our cat, I’ve already named him Ralph, could add a new warmth and love to the already cool vibe we have going.
2. Cats are super low maintenance.
Apart from giving Ralph a few cuddles, you wouldn’t have to do much.
3. Not only are they low maintenance, but Ralph won’t take up much space either.
Our apartment is tiny; maybe 500 square feet. With a cat, that isn’t a problem! Cats will sleep anywhere and make anything their home
4. Cats can relieve stress.
With school, work and a social life, our lives can get pretty stressful. The purr a cat makes has been said to relieve stress and anxiety. Ralph could make finals week a bit better!
5. Cats are potty trained.
You just have to show a cat where the litter box is, and they are potty trained. We won’t have to worry about the tough stages of potty training or paying for the carpet cleaning company to clean pee puddles.
6. Cats are entertaining.
A cat is really a furry ball of energy and laughs. The smallest things could lead to a play session, and who doesn’t want to play with a cute cat?
7. Yeah, I know, cats shed.
However, this shedding could give us the extra motivation to vacuum and dust every once in awhile.
8. Overall, cats could teach us some responsibility.
Buying the food and kitty litter, taking care of Ralph’s personal needs, and taking care of him in general could teach us some real responsibility, and we know we could use it.
9. Ralph could save you in many awkward social situations.
“Oh, sorry. I would love to come, but I need to check on my cat.”
10. Cats have a pretty cool history.
In ancient Egypt, cats were considered sacred animals. Other ancient religions thought cats were exalted souls, companions, or guides for humans. Many goddesses were depicted with cats. The ancient Egyptian goddess, Bastet, was often depicted in cat form. In Norse mythology, the goddess Freyja is depicted with a chariot drawn by cats.
11. A cat literally just appeared on our balcony.
I am not kidding. I am sitting here writing this article, and a cat just walked onto our balcony. If this isn’t a sign, I don’t know what is.
