Dear Older Sister,
Thank you for letting me get away with all the things you didn’t, thank you for being the “test child” for all of mom’s crazy ideas, and thank you for being my best friend.
You were seven when I was born, so I was basically your personal baby doll for the first three years of my life. Eventually I wanted to play with you, and I bugged you and annoyed you and your friends until you gave in. But let’s be honest, you all loved me. And I was found hanging around you guys whether you liked it or not. You had a huge collection of Barbie’s that I eventually got to play with, and Beanie Babies too. Thank you for sharing your toys, even if mom forced you to.
With seven years between us, you had a lot of time to grow up and learn a lot of cool things, which you eventually passed down to me. (Thanks for that) You helped me learn to ride a bike, even if it did have training wheels. And I helped you learn patience, you’re welcome. You taught me how to stand up for myself, and how to make friends. You’ve shared your experiences with me, which helped me grow as a person and exposed me to different types of possibilities in the world. With seven years between us, you’d think you’d be embarrassed to spend time with your little sister, but I’m glad you put effort into spending time with me, it made our bond so much stronger. Even though we are two TOTALLY different people, we can still manage to get along (most of the time). I’m sorry about that time I shut the door on your head, I seriously didn’t mean it.
Thanks for being seven years older and being the “test child” for moms crazy parenting ideas. I learned from you, I didn’t know at the time, but it would help me overall, watching you get grounded or being late for curfew. I was a good child, I never pushed limits like you did, so I never got grounded, I wasn’t in trouble when I was late for curfew, I usually had good grades, so when my grades were bad they weren’t as angry. Thanks for letting them trust me a little more, I appreciate you taking one for the team!
Also, thank you for coming to as many school activities as you could, whether it be choir concerts, plays, award ceremonies, dances, Prom, or Graduation, you always were there. You supported and helped me accomplish anything I set my mind to, I wouldn’t have half the drive I do today without your help!
Thank you for still being my best friend, after 19 years, our friendship is greater than ever. You may physically be 200 miles away, but you’re only a phone call away if I need you. You’re my human diary, my human “Magic 8-Ball”, and my go to for advice. I’m so thankful to have been born into a family where you’re in it.
Thank you for everything, I Love you.
-Your Little Sister
