Where do I begin? We all have those friends who we meet and instantly click with.
Never did I think that I would start my summer job, a job where I didn't know a single person, and find someone who would become one of my best friends.
The summer started and I felt so out of place. I was usually always outgoing and never afraid to be myself, but this summer job was different.
I was entering uncharted territory, embarking upon a journey at a summer camp where people had worked for many years, and this would only be my first. I knew nothing about the camp, nothing about the kids, and nothing about how the camp day went.
I came to know a few people here and there, but there was no one I was super close with. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin.
As pre-camp orientation began, I quietly participated in activities, answered when spoken to, and went along to get along. These were all things I was not very used to.
I was used to being the loud, outspoken, high-energy one in any group. It wasn't until about halfway through the nine orientations that I met my twin.
She was loud, hyper, outgoing, and again, LOUD. She commanded attention as soon as she entered the room. She knew everyone and everyone knew her. She was who I was used to being every other place I went, every place except here.
Immediately we gravitated toward each other. Being that it was my first summer, she explained to me the lay of the land and filled me in. I felt like I was the new kid on the first day of school.
As summer progressed, we became each other's sidekicks and would pick up where the other one left off. Coming to this job, I never thought I would find someone so in sync with me. In fact, never did I think in my life that I would find someone so in sync with me.
So, I want to say thank you to this new friend for life. Thank you for being the one who greets me in the morning, the one who texts me late at night, the one who screams at the kids when I get tired, the one who makes me laugh when I'm down, and the one who I can always count on.
Thank you for teaching me what it means to work at Sunrise Day Camp. Most importantly, thank you for being my other half. You have made this summer amazing.
Remember to thank the ones who are always there for you, because you never know; you may be friends for life.
