You just moved me in for my second year of college and all of the packing and preparation was just as stressful as freshman year. It was a lot of work for the two of us, but just like with any other situation, we made it through together. I know neither one of us expected to be a family of less than three, but I think we've been making it work quite well, given our circumstances.
From the time I was little and you and Dad were still married, you were always the one I could count on. He couldn't help that he had a job that required him to travel so often, but he could help not being fully present when he was around.
Because of his traveling, we celebrated many birthdays and holidays on our own. He missed countless concerts and recitals, but you were there for every one of them. Even though some kids had huge families coming to see them, it meant the world to know you were there to watch me in every show, no matter how many performances there were.
You have been the ultimate support system and I wouldn't be where I am without you. People always say that moms have to be encouraging because that's their duty as mothers, but you were genuine and gave me helpful critiques when I asked for them.
When I decided I wanted to pursue acting and no one else believed I could do it, you were the one listening to me practice for college auditions and researching schools with excellent theatre programs. Because of you, we visited Illinois Wesleyan. Because of you, I found a place that offers me almost as much support as you do.
I know raising me on your own was never part of the plan, but I think you've done a wonderful job. You've taken the responsibilities of two parents and successfully combined them into one. I don't know how you do it, but I'm glad you do.
So, thank you. Thank you for the deep conversations we've had, but also the silly ones. Thank you for driving me to all of my activities and being my number one fan. Thank you for making my life as great as it is, but most of all, thank you for putting me first.
I thank God every day that I have a strong, caring, and inspiring woman like you for a mom.
