It seems like yesterday we were both little girls playing Barbie's and Polly Pockets, dressing up as princesses and playing games with the neighbors. Now you are all grown up and starting your senior year of high school. You grew up so fast, and you grew into a beautiful, smart, talented young woman. Things are going to be different this school year. In a few days you will be starting your last first day of school.
Over the next nine months life is going to go by quickly. This will be your fastest school year, so cherish every moment. I know that you are excited to leave high school, but try to savor every moment you have. Make memories this year. This will be the last time that you will be with your current friend group. You and your friends are going to go down different life paths beginning in June, and will not likely see each other often. Go to as many football games, concerts, school dances, and school events as you can. You will be happy that you did when you look back on this school year. Don't be afraid to make new friends this year. Sometimes it's the people you become friends with last that are the ones that will stay your friend.
Do not forget about your grades. Fight "senioritis" as hard as you possibly can. This year matters as much as the other years. Try and get your GPA up as high as you can so that you can get into the school of your choice. Develop study skills now so that the transition to college is easier. Work hard this year and make it your best year academically. Apply for every scholarship that comes your way. Apply to state and private schools so that you can pick whatever school you want to go to. Work hard everyday.
Don't get involved with drama or make the little things a big deal. None of it will matter in a few months anyway. Let Mom and Dad take pictures on your first day of school, your award ceremonies, baccalaureate, prom, other events/dances, and at graduation. It's the last time they get to do all of this. Let them participate in school and dance events one more time.
You are no longer a little girl, but are on the edge of adulthood. Have fun being a kid one last time because next year you are an adult with responsibilities taking on the world. I don't have to wish you good luck, because you will do just fine. Have fun, and make this year the best year yet.
