To My Little Sister

You are never alone.

Dear little sister,

As you venture into your final year of middle school there are some things I want you to know. Middle school is full of people who aren't going to have your best interest at heart. Girls can be mean. The girls will play stupid games and make you look foolish so that they can look better.

Find your solid friends and never let them go. They will become your rock. Your best friend will be your life saver and you will be forever thankful for her. Boys can suck in middle school too. Just because all the other girls in your grade have a boyfriend or talk about having one doesn't mean you need one. You wait for that boy who is going to appreciate all that you are and everything you have to offer.

Don't take anything less than you deserve, and find people who won't make you change so you can fit in with their fake appearance. Love with all your heart. Love deeply, love unconditionally and love passionately. Love yourself. Every little thing about yourself no matter what.

From your head to your toes and every little thing in between, no matter if you don't like that part of you right now. Every single ounce of you is beautiful, and don't you think for one second otherwise. Laugh loudly, and smile till your cheeks cramp up, and then smile even more. Don't ever stop doing what you love, and don't listen to a single person who tries to tell you that what you love isn't what's cool. Don't take the people you love for granted; you never know when it may be the last time you talk to them. Say I love you to your family and your best friend every day.

Even if your little brother is annoying you or you got into a fight with your mom. Those are the people who will always be there for you, and will love you unconditionally no matter what happens. Remember that I am always there for you. I have been through the stupid things people do in middle school to be one of the popular kids, and I will forever know how what you are going through feels like.

You are not alone, and I can promise you that I will never ever let you feel as if you are alone. I'm a text, a phone call and a trip downstairs away. If you need a hug, my arms are always open, and if you need some ice cream, I am always ready to go get some.

I love you, you are the best little sister I could have hoped for, and I hope that one day you can see yourself how I see you in my eyes.

Love,
Your Big Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
