Future Residents,

So we're both going to be experiencing something new come this fall, you are new on campus, and I am taking on a leadership role for an entire floor. I am so excited to meet each and every one of you and get to know you. There are so many things I will want to tell you about campus and the community you are joining. If I start to ramble, and you don't understand me anymore, just remember it is because I am so excited to be your Resident Advisor and show you how much fun college is.

We will be learning so much in our first few weeks together, they are the most crucial part of your year with me. You will meet all your fellow floor mates and begin to form friendships with each other, due to common interests or similar eating schedules. The people on your floor will be such a great resource and reliable group of friends to make quickly. I hope our floor will be able to have our doors open and enjoy our times together.

I hope this place will become like a home to you, I will try to make it as homey as possible, and if there is anything you need, think of me as a mom or big sister. I am here to help, don't be afraid to ask. I know it is going to be scary and overwhelming but remember it will get better, and it is okay to rely on others for help.

When it comes to rule following, I hope you all understand I am your RA first and your friend second. I always will be around to listen and lend a comforting voice of reason when you need me, but I expect you all to understand the rules are more for your safety than to ruin any fun. I like loud music and dancing around the room and halls as much as the next person so join in on the fun, and as long as it's not 3 am I don't think we will have problems with noise complaints or me asking you to turn the music down.

I love the word community, it's something I plan to build with all of you. As freshmen, you all will be experiencing living with someone else if not two people for the first time, in a small space. I expect there to be roommate disagreements, it will happen, and we will get through it together. There is something to be said about roommates, and all you should remember is this is new for you both, don't fret the small stuff and be honest about what bothers you.

We will have so many things we have the opportunity to do together the first few weeks and getting to know the silly and fun things about each other is one of them. We will also be able to explore all things campus and I will be there every step of the way!

There are so many things I can't wait to share with you, and I am so excited for the memories we will make together. I hope you all are looking forward to the year as much as I am and come determined for success. As important as making friends is, there is so many opportunities on campus for you and we will find the perfect fit for you.

I can't wait for this year, not just because I am an RA but because I get to learn and grow with all of you as well. We will laugh at our fails and take pride in the successes together. I am so excited to meet you special residents of mine.

Enjoy your summer!

XOXO,

Your Future RA.

P.S. Bare with me this year, it's as new to you as is it is to me!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
