To My Freshman Year Best Friends

I walked into my freshman year of college with a cheery smile on my face and a brand spankin' new backpack to put all my exciting college-y books in. A dorm to call my own, a schedule not mandated by teachers, and... no parents! Seems like the dream, right? Well, my freshman year did not turn out like I thought it would. I ended up struggling with my classes, hating my major, and feeling extremely homesick. However, I still fell in love with my school. In the midst of some serious shit, I found friends who didn't think I was weird when i literally banged my Dammit Doll on the wall, talk about awesome.

98% of the people in your college Facebook group are weird as hell and you'll probably ask yourself a thousand times why you chose the school you did. Trust me, you'll see those people from a distance and never speak to them. When I got to school, I had the opposite of a roommate horror story. My roommate and a few of the rest of my hall-mates became my best friends.

Forcing me to go out on Tuesdays and taking me to Applebee's while saying "forget about the calories" have been some of my favorite moments at college. You all push me to the edge of my comfort zone and make me stare a challenge straight in the face. None of you have ever doubted me. None of you have once said, "yeah, you probably didn't study enough" because you all (at least pretend to) think I'm going to ace that test.

April sucks for college students and somehow, you guys have made my April awesome. Thanks for making the most terrible times of the year, the most awesome ones. Finals week means sushi every night week. Got a shit ton of work this month? Me too! Let's go to the lib and pull in all nighter. I don't know how the hell you guys make every thing fun. But, thanks for that and keep it up for finals week in a couple of weeks.

If you know me, you know I'm the Queen of Stress. Seriously, get me a crown or a sash or something because it's true. Well, you all make that melt away. Whether it's watching trashy T.V. like "Are You the One" or running to grab some Ben and Jerry's to take the pain away, you all know exactly what to do to get my mind off of things.

We've all had our moments, but man have I had a lot of them. Thanks for being my friend, even now when school has me so tired that I can't hang out past 11:00 pm. Thanks for not laughing when I literally look like Kim Kardashian when she ugly cries. All of you are some of the most patient people I have met and if you weren't, well, I'd probably be a hobo outside the Metro-North by now.

You all know that I love my home, Mom, and dogs more than anything. Logically, there's no place I'd rather be than home. But, no matter how much I say that Syracuse is my home, you all are my home too. Whether it's our stomping grounds the Bronx, or Oregon, Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and even Long Island, those are my homes too because that's where all of you are. I know that no matter how far away we are, there's always a little home somewhere. It's almost impossible to get homesick now, no matter where we are in the world.

You all have made my experience at college. Sure, we pay a ridiculous amount of money a year to get an education, which really means meet enough alumni so that we can find a job, but you guys take a huge part of my "Reasons I Love College" pie chart. To sum it up, you guys rock. I couldn't have picked better friends and I'm so appreciative and grateful that I have met you guys. I love you all.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
