Dear Roommate,
With the year coming to a close, I thought I would dedicate this to you. It has been such a wild and crazy year, and I wouldn’t want to have spent it with anyone other than you. I have learned so much from you these past few months, and let me tell you, you are such an incredible person— no matter how many times they tell you you’re not. Although I may not express it, you have taught me so much about how people think and it’s fascinating to hear things from someone with a completely different mindset than my own. I think that is one of the greatest perks of having a roommate.
Before this year, I never had to share my space with anyone. It was quite eye-opening and hard for me to adjust, it still is, but I’m working on it. The first week of school was probably the hardest week of my life. I was away from home, away from my family, I felt like I didn’t belong here. You made me realize everyone was in the same boat. You made me see that there were so many things to do and people to interact with. You made me realize that I will be home again, but don’t focus on going home, focus being here.
Right now.
In the moment.
Your personality brought me out of that slump, and I could never repay you for that.
Thank you for always listening to me, thank you for always looking at the bright side of things, and most of all, thank you for being a friend. Even though we are not rooming together next year, I will always be here in a time of need. Whether it is with relationship problems, school, family, or work, I will always be there.
Thanks for a great year,
Your Roommate
P.S. I hope I didn’t annoy you too much, because I know we got on each other’s nerves a time or two. This is normal for every roommate, right?
