Out of all of the times to be silent you choose now? Stand up. Honestly, stop looking for the light, and become the light.
Today, we can choose to follow a leader whose petulance is unbecoming, and rejoice for God giving us a conservative leader who stands to mock our God, or you can choose to stand for the love of God, and remember why you were put here in the first place.
As for me, I condemn our president’s actions. I condemn the way that he is perpetrating discrimination on the Refugee community; I condemn the way he has depicted the immigrant community --a community that I hold very near to my heart due to the prominence of immigrants in my hometown. And I condemn the way he has played our democratic republic as if it were a reality television show. As Americans, we are not contestants on this television show. We are active American citizens just trying to survive societal corruption.
If you identify as Christian, here is your chance to be the witness of a lifetime, and break a stigma. And no, this does not have to do with politics anymore. There is nothing liberal, nor is there anything conservative about the Lord’s commandment of love.
The Bible tells us that, “We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19 NIV). I am afraid
that we have made God’s love conditional. We have decided who God has told us to love, and who God loves. I am sorry to burst your bubble of exclusivity, but God loves your enemy as much as He loves you. And He wants you to love your enemy with the same passion you hate him with.
We believe that we are just. Individuals who have different beliefs from you are not your enemy; they are not demons. They are individuals. They are still God’s children. They breathe the same air that you do, and their heart beats just as yours does. Be the one who gives them a chance.
You cannot save everyone, but you can show them how God has saved you.
I am not telling you to be soft, so do not become sensitive with the message I am relaying to you --because I know that I am getting some eyerolls from behind the screen. Those of you giving the eyerolls are the exact people I am talking to.
You are self-righteous without the right of being so, and you are too proud to do a thing about it. You are quick to call yourselves Christian in title, but have very little action to reach out to those who need it the most. In fact, more often than not, I have seen individuals turn their backs on some of today’s heaviest issues. It’s hypocritical. It’s selfish. Our churches are to be a place of sanctuary, but instead they have turned into an exclusive show. I have made the comment that we have had an impeccable track record of kicking our wounded while they are down, and I am starting to believe that we are just good at that in general --in and out of church.
Jesus himself was anything but apolitical, so act accordingly.
As previously mentioned, do not be soft. Speak up, and speak out. If you have an opinion, then say it. You are entitled. Just make sure that it lines up with the word of the God whom you serve.
As Christians, it is easy for us to live within our comfort zone. We box ourselves inside of bias. It’s unhealthy, and not what we were called to do with the time that we have been given. Be proactive, and be uncomfortable; share your beliefs with someone who needs a helping hand, but do not smack the hand of the individual because they do not believe what you do. Be the good samaritan to those who need regardless of who they are. Because God has called us to build bridges for His kingdom, not walls and “keep out” signs against those who do not know Him.
