Being so close in age wasn't always the best thing when we were younger, but as we got older it was in our best interest. I've watched you grow up alongside me and I wouldn't trade it for the world. In elementary school we constantly teased each other and got on each other's nerves. In high school we started to experience many of the same things, share the same friends, and even participated on the same sports teams. I would experience something and if you weren't right there, you weren't far behind.
Once I left for college it was so strange not having you around all the time. I mean, we were by each other's side for 17 years and then suddenly we only see one another every month or so. I no longer know what happened at school every day, what happened at football practice, or how you did on that exam you were worried about. I don't know much about your life except for the things we exchange through text or the things I see on Snapchat. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I mean, it makes my visits or your visits that much more exciting because we both have so much to catch up on.
I'm so proud of all of your accomplishments this far and I know you have yet to accomplish so much more. Before I know it, you will be buying all of the essentials for your dorm room, picking your classes, and packing up your childhood bedroom to make your way to the new and exciting world of college. You don't have to go in feeling alone. You have me to answer any question you can possibly think of.
I'm always there for you when you are confused about the crazy time they call high school and you are always there when I'm questioning whether I can do this crazy thing called college. I'm so excited for you to start this new portion of your life and can't wait to see all that you accomplish.
It wouldn't really be very sisterly of me to not leave you with some advice, now would it? I want you to know that college is definitely fun, but you need to know how to balance the fun with the work. You are at college to learn, to find yourself, and experience new things. Take advantage of the opportunities that come your way, but also make your own opportunities because not everything will be handed to you. Join some clubs. I promise you aren't to busy too try at least one out. Who knows, you might find a club you never even thought of and love it.
So, little brother, it's almost your turn to graduate and move out of the house. It's a scary, exciting, and unpredictable experience, but I know you are going to do just fine. I love you so much and I can't wait to come visit you at your chosen college. Know that I will always be here for you no matter what and we are stuck with each other whether you like it or not.
Love,
Your big sister
