To My Best Friend From Home As We Leave For College (Again)

Dear Forever Friend,

You know who you are, and by now (over six years of friendship, and counting) we have established that despite going to colleges in different states and the odds being against us, we succeeded. We can say that we made it past the first year of college hump and are now closer than ever. I would like to say that I wish we went to the same school, but I don’t. Now you may be laughing, but I am truly happy that we picked different colleges because we have so many fun stories to tell each other whenever we are together, and that is truly something special. I know you have made new friends at school and I have as well, but you will always be #1.

Thank you for listening to me when I was talking about nothing you wanted to hear about (you know what I am talking about). Or being my shoulder to cry on when I felt lonely or hard to love. Thank you for being patient with me when I really needed someone, needed someone to say “you’re not crazy” even though we both knew that I was. For not being so quick to judge me, and for supporting my bad decisions but still telling me I should not be doing them. This time around leaving for college is going to be so much harder, and I didn’t think anything could be harder than last summer. I wont have my Serena to my Blair to text at 1 A.M. asking “am I being crazy or…” But, you and I will only be a phone call or Facetime away.

I am so thankful for the years we have spent as best friends, and even the time that we have drifted apart because life has taken control, we always find our way back to each other. Back to those poolside conversations and caramel Dunkin iced coffees (medium, milk and sugar). Good luck this year and continue to make your girl proud! I will be rooting for you from the sidelines watching you succeed in all you do, as always. I can’t wait to make more memories with you, even if we are 127.1 miles away from each other (yes I looked it up). Thank you, again, for everything. I love you more than words could ever explain.

With Love Always,

B

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
