To My Beloved Little Sister

I am truly blessed with the best.

To My Beloved Little Sister
Lauren Ashby

When I was 4 years old, I was blessed with the news that I would be receiving a younger sister. Nine months later Caitlin was finally here. When Caitlin was about 2 weeks old, and my curiosity led me to actually step on her to see what happened. Too this day the poor girl has an indent in the middle of her chest.

Looking back at my childhood, I was the worst sister ever. I made Caitlin believe in all of the monsters under her bed, never let her play with me and my friends, and made sure I always got the bigger bedroom.

Caitlin and I had it rough growing up. Our parents got divorced about 7 years ago, and have hated each other since. It was just Caitlin and I for a while. However, these have been some of the best years of my life. Since moving to Purdue, I miss the days I am able to drive Caitlin around or waking her up with breakfast on a Saturday morning.

Even though I tease her about her 3.8 GPA, or the fact that she landed the part of the lead role’s friend and not the lead role in the school musical, I look at Caitlin now as she’s growing up. I can’t express how lucky I am to have her. Having someone to call when you just want a break from school is the best feeling ever. My sister is like the escape I need when I am ever sad or stressed out. My sister is the strongest girl I know. No one knows you better than your sister. Caitlin has been there through it all. I have truly been blessed to have a girl like her in my life. I love you Caitlin.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
