To start this off, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for everything you have done for me, and the things you will do for me. You are the greatest best friend that I could have ever asked for. I couldn’t imagine a better one to have in my life. You have been my best friend for five years, and I would not want to have it any other way. You know me better than anyone, and you have been by my side through thick and thin.
I remember in middle school you disliked me, and I would always pester you to be my friend. Eighth grade happened and you gave me a bar of soap, which you made, for Christmas. And then the summer before freshman year we just clicked, and we have been best friends ever since. We bonded over our love of anime, and we Skyped until 6 a.m. almost every day. I will always feel bad for missing that one day of school freshman year, when all those people cornered you in a bathroom. But I stayed by your side, and we moved tables. Thank you for not making me feel like a total idiot when I poured my feelings out to my crush at the time, only to have them rejected, and then cry at the table. That definitely makes up for a funny story now though.
Once sophomore year came around, we thought we were on top of the world. I convinced you to do journalism with me, and that ended up being the best thing we did together. We had so much fun, despite some of the bumps in the road. Our junior year I convinced you to do marching band, and I am glad I did. We made ones at competition, and I had to carry on with the bet we made. The summer before senior year was hard, I had lost a lot of other friends, but you stayed by my side, and let me know things would be OK. Thank you for that. We did color guard together, and I can say you were my favorite guard member. Other than Stormy, of course. We were there for each other when we both admitted to things that make us cringe now. You know what I am talking about, red and yellow. We had an amazing year at UIL competition, and we were the best journalists. We got to see the cadaver lab, which really wasn’t as cool as we were expecting. Prom was amazing, and before we knew it graduation rolled around.
It was hard when I went away to another school but you supported my decision, and we remained the best of friends still. Sure, we argued and had rough patches in the road, but that is OK. That is to be expected. Even now, you still support my decision to transfer. Which doesn’t scare me so much because I know I will have you by my side.
Basically I wanted to write this so everyone else can know what an amazing best friend you are to me. I hope we are best friends far into our elder years, and that even our grandkids will be best friends. I always pray that good things come your way, because out of everyone I know, you deserve it. I know you can do anything you set your mind to, and yeah, college may suck, but you can do it. I believe in you. You may not be as positive and optimistic as I am, but it is OK. Because I’ll always be by your side to give you sunshine. We will always have our codes, like JFK, Steve Jobs, and many more. You will always inspire me to do better, and I will always admire you for how strong you are.
So thank you for being in my life this long, and for doing this adventure with me. I can’t wait to see where our lives take us.
