Dear Me,
This is your 18-year-old self checking up on you. This seems like just yesterday right? Oh, how time flies. Where did all those nights studying for hours go? I’m currently preparing to take on my freshman year in college, thinking about what I should expect as I do last minute packing. As an average freshman, with a few worries, I admit, I sit here hoping for the best in my next chapter in my life. These next few years of my life is the building block for the future. Scary, right? I am questioning if I will be able to afford an apartment or even a house in the future, if I will be successful in life, and most of all, if I will be happy and content in life. But, why am I even worrying about these things? God has my whole future planned out for me and he will always provide. You have so many hopes that you, the older version of me, are already doing.
I hope that you are maintaining and growing in your faith. I have trust in myself that I will grow and I hope you made me proud. I know that getting involved with a church in your previous years filled you up with so much joy. This encourages me to know that you found a church in your current community that blessed you with new friends. I hope that you continued doing volunteer work within your community, which is what I am currently planning to pursue in college.
By now, you probably have gone through a few relationships. I hope that you are looking for guys that share your values. You deserve somebody who makes you happy and nothing less. I catch myself sometimes picturing the perfect man for me- one who’s into the Lord, patient and understanding, and one who I can be myself around. I hope you dealt every breakup, whether you were the heart breaker or the one being heart broken, gracefully and with respect. I am aware that you want somebody to make you happy, but don’t feel like a different person through breakups. There are so many things to be happy about.
You should have your mind set on what you want to pursue as a career in life if you aren’t already working. As I’m going into college, I’m thinking of majoring in Sociology. However, you really never know what your future holds. I hope, with whatever you chose to do, that you love doing and that you don’t let anything discourage you. I know that you are striving everyday to be the best you can be for this career. I’m confident in myself that my determination in life will only grow stronger.
Life is never going to be easy. I hope you know that, but there’s always hope in what's to come. There will never be a reason to give up on what you want to do. Continue learning how to be a better person everyday. Enjoy the little moments that make you happy. I hope you have a day where you feel like you did it and everything was worth it. Make me proud.
-Your younger self
