It has come down to that part of the year where all of your classes start piling on work and preparing for finals, your mental health is hanging on by a thread, and you're exhausted and in need of that long winter break. With all of this going on and Thanksgiving fast approaching, it may be difficult to think of things to be thankful for. So I have composed a list of things to help lift your spirits and look at things with a new perspective.
1. Winter break approaching.
That means a month to relax and not worry about the paper that's due next week (because there always seems to be one). This break will allow you to breathe and focus on your mental health. Also, if you're missing your family's home cooking, this would be a good time to take advantage of the free food and familiarity of home.
2. LEFTOVERS
I cannot stress the constant state of hunger college has me in. I can only afford food that is terrible for me...when I can afford food. Needless to say, I will have my tupperware ready for Thursday.
3. Family
Whether it is biological or otherwise, we can always count on the people that we call our family to be there for us.
4. Your Animals (or animals in general)
(Although I consider them family also.) Fur babies are something to be thankful for because no matter how far you go or how long, you can always count on your pups to be ecstatic that you've finally returned to them. Cats are thrilled on the inside. I think.
5. Coffee
You know when your brain just needs a hug? That's where coffee comes in. It helps you work through your problems and mellow you out at the same time. We salute you, coffee.
6. Your Opportunities
I cannot stress this enough. Each of us is given different opportunities and so many of us take them for granted. If you're in school right now, be thankful that you're able to receive an education. If you have an okay job right now, be thankful that you do, because some people are starving and struggling.
7. That you're OK
We may be drained mentally, physically and emotionally, but if you are reading this, you're OK. And if you aren't, you will be soon.
