The holiday season is exciting, right? You get to see all of your high school friends again, live in the comfort of your childhood home, and finally get quality family time. All of this is great up until the most-hated question of all time is asked: "Do you have a boyfriend yet?"
No, of course I don't have a boyfriend yet. I'm enrolled in 18 credits, apart of five extracurriculars, and have some sort of desire for girlfriends and a legendary social life. Do you think I'm some sort of superhuman?!
So for all the girls out there who are not superhuman, but still super awesome, here are a couple ways to answer that question:
1. Laugh it off.
This is my personal favorite, it really must be a joke that someone thinks I have a boyfriend. I break/lose my phone on a weekly basis, how could I possibly be functional enough to maintain a relationship?
2. Run away.
No one will catch you if you run away because odds are it is your grandmother or elderly aunt who thinks you should be engaged in the near future.
3. Reply in the form of a question.
Not only will you confuse them when you ask "Why?" or "Do you have a boyfriend?" in response, it will probably annoy them and they will leave you alone.
4. Have a mental breakdown.
Look them straight in the eyes, and let it all out. Tell them all of your life problems, put on a dramatic production. They will end up feeling bad for you and instantly understand that you are too mentally unstable for a relationship.
5. Make up a boyfriend.
You're actually not single. You're dating the pre-med football captain at school who wants to marry you.
6. Tell them you're dating yourself.
The person you should love most in this world is yourself, obviously. There is only so much time to love others, especially boys, when you're busy loving yourself.
7. Say you're "working on it."
Always valid, always works. There is some boy, somewhere out there you want to be with. He's just not necessarily yours to claim yet...or ever.
Maybe this year you'll get lucky and don't even have to answer the question, but when the inevitable does happen just remember there is always a way out.
