The goal of everyone is to try to stay happy and positive. Here are a couple of steps to take to achieve that goal.

Focus on Positive Thoughts

If you just focus on one negative thought it ruins your entire day. Instead of focusing on all the things wrong in your life or day focus on something positive that happened even if it was small. By changing your mentality, you change your entire perspective on not only that day, but yourself as a whole. Challenge yourself to wake up everyday with a positive thought and anytime you feel something goes wrong, think back to that one thought and you will feel more empowered.

Ask Yourself Better Questions

Our brains are kind of like Google, if you ask it something it will come up with an answer that you were looking for. Meaning, positive thoughts will lead to positive answers and negative thoughts will lead to negative answers. Instead of asking "why is life so unfair" ask "what can I learn from this" or "how is this situation going to make me stronger." By changing the way you talk to yourself will help change your mentality.

Remember that the Situation is only Temporary

Most of the time we forget that the bad situations will go away. Remind yourself that everything happens for a reason, so if you're going through a rough patch then it's because you can handle it. You will come out a stronger and better person from the situation at the end. Remember every story has a ending, you just have to read the rough parts to get there.

No Self-Pity

There are some things in life that are out of your control, but you control how you react to them. By choosing to feel sorry for yourself only makes the entire situation worse. However, by taking full responsibility for your thoughts, your emotions, and your actions you can take away the negativity that you feel.

Stop Trying to Control Things that are Out of Your Control

Life throws curve balls and there's nothing anyone can do about that. Not one person can control everything that happens to them so stop trying. By trying to control everything, you are not only not living life to the fullest, but creating unnecessary stress on yourself. Which then leads to negativity because bad things still happen even when you did everything in your power to try and stop them. Just live in the moment and let what happens happen.

Let it All Out

One of the best ways to make yourself feel better is to get everything out in the open. Whether that be by telling someone or by writing it down you have to get all of the emotions and negativity out. By keeping it inside you are creating a never ending cycle. Getting everything out will lift a weight off your shoulders.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
