We all know that dreaded moment when your teacher announces that there will be an exam next class and you know for a fact that you won't be able to have enough time to study. Let's face it, it sucks. No one wants to make the time to study for an exam. They are the worst. But with some helpful tips, studying for an exam will be easier than ever not to mention getting a good grade.
The one typical thing that a lot of people say is really helpful is study groups. Study groups give you a chance to compare your notes with others and get any information that you might have missed. You can also do a mini practice test with your study group. Another thing that I personally find helpful is going to an SI session (Student Instructor) or A.K.A teacher assistants. This is basically another version of a study group, only the SI (or TA) go over exactly everything you need to know for the exam. SI sessions might not apply to all colleges but forming a study group with other students will work well, too.
Additionally, remember that it's okay to take breaks in between your studying. It might also be helpful to spread out your studying by studying for an hour or two each day before the exam, instead of cramming it all the night before, which I know is was pretty much everyone does (including myself). If you decide to study the night before try to do it in intervals. Maybe study for an hour then take a twenty or thirty-minute break so then it won't seem as overwhelming.
When studying, try to find ways that you can make a personal connection to, making it a lot easier to remember. It might also help to create your own study guide so that you can better understand the topics and rewriting your notes will also help. One final tip to make studying better is to find a way to make it seem exciting, or even rewarding. For instance, if you are able to make it through one full hour of studying reward yourself with some candy. Find different ways to make studying fun so then it won't seem as tedious. Then all of your hard work will pay off when you receive a good grade!
